During his visit to Highpoint, Brian Shure will be our guest at an artist’s reception and show of his work in Highpoint’s gallery on Friday November 9, from 7–9 pm.
Brian Shure, a painter, and Adjunct Professor in Printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design, received a BA from Antioch College in 1974. He began an apprenticeship to Master Printer Earnest F. De Soto in San Francisco in 1972, and worked primarily as a lithographer until 1987 (Master Printer at Editions Press from 1981 to 1987). Brian was at Crown Point Press as a Master Printer and Coordinator of their China Woodblock Project from 1987 to 1994. Crown Point published his book: Chine Collé, a Printers Handbook, in 2000. In addition to teaching at RISD, Brian has taught as Visiting Artist at Brown University and Cornell University, and has conducted intaglio workshops around the United States and in Mexico. His most recent print project, published by Tokugenji Press in Southern Nara, Japan, consists of a group of intaglio prints mounted on scrolls, which he produced from drawings made at the Shrines at Ise Jingu, in the summer of 2000. He is currently working on a GSA painting commission for the historic Federal Court House in Pittsburgh. His prints and paintings have been widely exhibited, and he is represented by Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery in New York and Lenore Gray Gallery in Providence.
