Contemporary Pakistani Printmaking

Highpoint presents a group show focusing on the work of contemporary Pakistani printmakers—the first exhibit of its kind in Minneapolis. Contemporary Printmakers from Pakistan will feature over sixty works by artists from all regions of Pakistan, reflecting the visual and methodological diversity of their art world. Among the show’s participants are contemporary pioneers of Pakistani printmaking.

Gráfica Política

November’s election is almost here, and everyone’s thinking “politics”. Although the current focus is on national affairs, it’s timely to consider how democracy affects our lives on a more personal level—as citizens, as artists, and as part of a diverse local community. This fall, Highpoint and Grupo Soap del Corazon (a Twin Cities-based Latino arts group) will come together to explore these connections through the project Gráfica Política, featuring the creation and exhibition of new prints by Latino artists.

Jefferson School

Highpoint has been working for the past few months on an exciting partnership with Jefferson Community School, in conjunction with our neighbor Intermedia Arts. With the help of Intermedia’s Theresa Schulz, local spoken word artist Desdamona, and Jefferson School Principal Ray Aponte, we have created a unique project that draws together spoken word pieces, performance, and printmaking.

The Flying Carpet Project

In March 2004, Highpoint will be featuring a most extraordinary exhibition—an international women’s print project called The Flying Carpet. Created to honor the everyday visions and creations of women, the Project features work by 165 artists of varying disciplines, from 24 different countries. Highpoint is proud to be the first USA venue for this show, and one of the many hosts of the exhibit as it travels around the world.

Highpoint Center for Printmaking is pleased to announce the Jerome Emerging Printmakers Exhibition. The January 23, 2004 opening will be celebrated with a Free Reception and Meet the Artists Event, to take place that evening from 6:30–9:00 PM. Work featured in the show was created at Highpoint during the artists’ nine-month residency; select prints are available for purchase. The public is invited to join us as we toast the accomplishments of the featured residents: Susannah Bielak, Colin Gatling, and Sara Langworthy.
