Highpoint Center for Printmaking Announces Exhibition at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts

Highpoint Center for Printmaking is very proud to announce the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) will be hosting an exhibition of prints created during Highpoint’s first ten years (2001 – 2011). The show, Highpoint Editions – Decade One, will open on Saturday September 24 at the MIA and run through June 10, 2012. Thomas Rassieur, the John E. Andrus III Curator of Prints and Drawings at MIA, will curate the exhibition.

Celebrating 35 years of Prints

Highpoint Center for Printmaking is proud to be the first venue in the United States to exhibit works from Northern Ireland’s esteemed Belfast PrintWorkshop. The exhibition features prints from thirty printmakers spanning the 35-year history of the organization and its community. This thought-provoking exhibition encompasses a myriad of techniques and perspectives expressed through works by current and past members during the tumultuous recent history of Northern Ireland.

Studio and Education interns significantly help to make HP classes, our visiting artists program, and our artist cooperative possible. They work anywhere from 16–24 hours per week for a period of 3–6 months. These individuals are selected from a group of qualified applicants and for the most part they are actively making their own work. This exhibition presents a collection of prints created by 2011 Highpoint interns.

Summer Cooperative Exhibition

Highpoint Center for Printmaking is pleased to present Hot Off the Press, an exhibition of prints by members of its studio cooperative. Original lithographs, relief prints, intaglio and screenprints will be on view and available for purchase July 8 – August 18. The public is invited to an opening reception on Friday, July 8 from 6:30 – 9 PM. This event will offer visitors an opportunity to meet the artists and experience their printshop facility. The reception is free and open to all; beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Jerome artists Rose Sexton, Justin Sehorn and John Hunter are printing their way towards their exhibit opening May 20. Beginning in September 2010 the artists have been working in the studio at Highpoint. In November they visited the print study room at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and in December experienced the first of their group critiques with Bartholomew Ryan, Assistant Curator at the Walker Art Center.

Teen Project Exhibition & Annual Student Exhibition

Highpoint’s education and community programs stepped into a new world in 2010. With a classroom of its own and room to grow Highpoint programming including the A/P Project teen program, the school partnership program and adult printmaking classes are more in demand than ever before. The first school visitors stepped into the new classroom in September and classes scheduled through the end of the school year will be busily making prints. All of Highpoint’s school visitors have had the opportunity to participate in our student exhibit in April. This year the LOOK/SEE show will open in tandem with the ACCESS/PRINT Project show on April 22. Students, parents, teachers and the public are invited to join the celebration of a year of prints in Highpoint’s gallery!

Personal Perspectives from Tamarind

Highpoint is delighted to present this specially curated show of prints from the Tamarind Institute, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In this exhibition, curated by Tamarind’s Director Marjorie Devon, the artists portray humanity — metaphorically and literally. Contemporary artists, ranging from American greats such as Jim Dine and Lesley Dill to South American artists José Antonio Suarez Londoño and Alex Cerveny, convey the artists’ particular visions of themselves and the world around them in lithographs large and small; colorful and black and white. Now 50 years old, Tamarind Institute is renowned for teaching, producing and exhibiting lithography. HP’s Artistic Director Cole Rogers is a Tamarind certified Master Printer.
