Constructed Intimate Landscapes

New Prints by Pamela Carberry
January 3, 2014 – March 28, 2014

The recent prints by Cooperative Member Pamela Carberry, Constructed Intimate Landscapes explore the relationship of color on color and the shifting horizon lines as I move about in the natural environment. By contrasting static elements with fluid marks and defining the very basic division of space on the page, the world is portrayed in severely simplified images without many details.

As If

New Prints by Brian Hartley Sago
October 26, 2013 – December 20, 2013

As If is a series of intaglio prints that investigates the 151 savants – the artists, scientists, engineers and mathematicians who accompanied Napoleon on his 1798 invasion of Egypt (along with 50,000 soldiers and sailors). As a military expedition it was an utter failure. The entire French fleet was lost in a single battle and a third of the soldiers and sailors died – most from the plague rather than as casualties of battle. The French were expelled from Egypt in less than three years. However what the savants achieved during those three years was longer lasting, and as such is the focus of this solo exhibition by longstanding HP co-op member Brian Hartley Sago.

This exhibition features screenprints, mixed media collages and numerous other art objects created at Highpoint during the artists’ residency. The show opens with a free public reception on Friday, May 24 from 6:30–9 pm. Refreshments will be served and the artists will be present to answer questions about their work.
