Highpoint is excited to present Contour Atmosphere in our Threshold Gallery featuring recent prints by Matthew Kunes. The artist offered the following remarks:

A contour line travels. An outline is created. Lines transform paper. A shape takes form. A recognizable figure emerges. The internal negative space, the atmosphere is craving for a life of its own.

I create contour drawings and fill each one it’s own energetic atmosphere of line and color. The intent is to capture the life and expression of the subject by using engaging color schemes and charismatic lines. The initial concept starts as an animal or a portrait, but the use of continuous lines are designed to express its internal atmosphere. By screen printing the images on a larger scale, my goal is to invite the viewer to get close and explore the internal animated topographic atmosphere created.
