Highpoint invites you to join us on Friday, December 11th for an evening of printmaking, conversation, and community!

Enjoy expert demonstrations from Highpoint co-op members, holiday-inspired cocktails and mocktails, and light bites while mingling with artists, collectors, and print lovers. Get an inside look at different printmaking processes and meet the artists who make it happen.

Each of the four major printmaking techniques—screenprinting, intaglio, lithography, and relief—will be demonstrated by Highpoint co-op members, including artists featured in our winter co-op exhibition, Prints on Ice.

Schedule
6:00 PM — Arrive, mingle & enjoy refreshments
6:15 PM — Screenprinting Demonstration with Cathy Spengler
7:00 PM — Intaglio Demonstration with Grace Sippy
7:45 PM — Lithography Demonstration with Faye Passow
8:30 PM — Relief Demonstration with Carl Nanoff

About the artists:

Cathy Spengler is a screen printer based in Minneapolis, and a member at Highpoint Center for Printmaking. Her career was in graphic design, with a focus on book design. She loved her work, but after 30 years she found a hankering to make art of her own—and specifically screen prints—was starting to compete for her time and attention, and she retired. A screen printing course followed, giving her the basic skills she needed to become a member at Highpoint. She has been happily making screen prints there since 2017.

Cathy’s work is driven by a simple love of looking at things. She always has her camera at hand to record what captivates her, and those photos become the starting point for many of her prints. Whether the end result is representational or abstract, her art is always, at heart, a celebration of color, light, pattern and rhythm. View Cathy’s work here.

Grace Sippy is a printmaker and book artist. Her interests in print media include traditional and contemporary methods to create a complex visual language. Her most recent work focuses on loss, memory, motherhood and healing.

In 2010 she earned her BFA in Printmaking with Honors, at the University of Iowa, and her MFA in Printmaking at the University of Alberta in 2014. She has taught at the University of Alberta and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. At Highpoint Center for Printmaking she has taught Samplers and Demos, Weekend Workshops, and Six-Week courses. She is currently an adjunct professor at MCAD. View Grace’s work here.

Faye Passow has a BFA in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and a MA in lithography from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. She has practiced lithography ever since, for many years at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, but more recently at Highpoint Center for Printmaking. Faye has received a Bush Foundation Fellowship, a Minnesota State Arts Board Grant and a WARM/Landmark Print Project Grant. Her work is in the collections of the Walker Art Center, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Minnesota History Center, the Minnesota Museum of American Art and the Princeton Rare Book Collection. Carl Nanoff studied architecture and studio arts/printmaking in college. He worked as a draftsman/structural designer. He has been a member at Highpoint Center for Printmaking for 10+ years. He has conducted classes at Highpoint Center for Printmaking, and training sessions in cad design. His art is influenced by the geometric nature of his drafting experience, architecture, and various abstract art movements. His printmaking experience is lithography, woodcuts, dry point, and mono-prints. His current printmaking practice is to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional printmaking. WORKSHOP TRANSFERS, CANCELLATIONS, & REFUNDS

Our workshops are intentionally small to ensure each participant receives personalized instruction and access to Highpoint's studios and equipment. Because we commit to our teaching artists and prepare materials in advance, cancellations can have a significant impact on our ability to run a workshop.

If you need to make a change to your registration, please contact Jo Johannsen at jo@highpointprintmaking.org or call 612-278-4162.

TRANSFERS

If you're no longer able to attend, we encourage you to transfer your registration whenever possible.

  • Transfer to another workshop: You may transfer your registration to another Highpoint workshop up to 7 days before your workshop, subject to availability. If the new workshop has a different tuition rate, you will be responsible for paying the difference or will receive a refund for the difference, if applicable.

  • Transfer to another person: If you're unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to a friend or family member at any time at no additional charge. Please email Jo with the new participant's name and email address before the workshop begins.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS

  • 7 or more days before your workshop: Receive a full refund of your tuition and materials fees, less a $25 processing fee.

  • Less than 7 days before your workshop: Refunds are not available. However, you may transfer your registration to another person as described above.

The $25 processing fee is waived if Highpoint cancels the workshop.

WORKSHOP CANCELLATIONS BY HIGHPOINT

Occasionally, a workshop may need to be canceled due to insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or inclement weather. If Highpoint cancels a workshop, you will receive a full refund, including all tuition, materials fees, and any processing fees.

Thank you for your understanding and support. These policies help us continue offering high-quality workshops while supporting our teaching artists and maintaining our small class sizes.
