To kick off an exciting Fall 2008 season, Highpoint will present HIGHPOINT EDITIONS: Recent Publications, a show of recently completed works from its professional printshop. Visitors to the exhibition will view prints by Santiago Cucullu, Rob Fischer, Adam Helms, Lisa Nankivil, and Jessica Rankin, all created in collaboration with Highpoint Editions. Since Highpoint’s 2001 inaugural publication of David Rathman’s Five New Etchings, it has released a steady stream of limited edition prints; the prints featured in Recent Publications enrich this highly regarded body of work.

Here’s a quick peek at what the show offers:

Santiago Cucullu’s brightly colored prints were executed in the Japanese Ukiyo-e style. The finished woodblock prints—which he titled The Archivists Labor of Love, Natty Dress Until the End, and A Carved Breakfast Nook in the Style of 1950‘s American Baroque Furniture—continue his exploration of autobiography and collective experience.

Dodgeball, Rob Fischer’s striking new diptych, was printed with recycled gymnasium floorboards from the artist’s sculptural practice. After being wiped intaglio style, the boards were rolled in relief, thereby capturing their shape as well as the delicate scratches and flaws earned by their years of use. Colored swatches of screenprinting complete the piece.

Adam Helms’ provocative triptych builds upon his previous investigations of guerrilla warfare, rebellion, and extremist ideology. The screenprint and lithographs that compose Untitled Landscape intermingle images and icons from numerous radical groups.

Lisa Nankivil’s prints reproduce the formal invention of her abstract paintings and conjure up a host of sensory associations. Please see Page 4 for more information about Lacuna and Equinox.

Jessica Rankin’s chine collé etchings, Reverberations and Parade of Possibilities, further develop her preoccupation with language, memory, and interpretation. The imagery and text within these works compose an elegant pictorial diary of lived experience and private reflection.
