Senior editor at Print Collector’s Newsletter from 1991 to 1996, editor-in-chief of Art on Paper from 1996 to 2001, and a regular contributor to the recently disbanded Art in Print, she has made writing about prints her specialty. She has authored book and catalogue essays on a broad range of artists and subjects, as in a catalogue raisonné on the prints of Joan Snyder. She received her Ph.D. in the History of Art from Yale University in 1987, and—in addition to Purchase College—has taught at the universities of Oregon (Eugene) and Arizona (Tucson), the School of Visual Arts (New York), Rhode Island School of Design and the Yale School of Art. She is a recipient of the Penny McCall Foundation Award for excellence in criticism (2002) and in 2013 was honored by the International Print Center New York for her art criticism on prints. Her book, Lois Dodd (2017), was published by Lund Humphries in its ongoing series of monographs on contemporary painters. She is presently at work, with Ingrid Schaffner, on a book about the history of Skowhegan. She is currently Visiting Associate Professor and Chair of the MFA Program in Art + Design at Purchase College, SUNY.
