Students will learn mono print methods using collagraph techniques, non-traditional objects, textures, and recycled materials to create imagery on a professional intaglio press with oil-based inks. Demonstrations will include ink handling and color mixing, simple registration techniques for multi color press runs to create variable editions. Work sessions will emphasis image development through experimentation and planning.

Skill level: beginner to intermediate printmaking experience

About the instructors: Carl Nanoff (he/him) studied architecture and studio arts/printmaking in college. He worked as a draftsman/structural designer. He has been a member at Highpoint Center for Printmaking for 10+ years. He has conducted training sessions in cad design, and design project standards. His art is influenced by the geometric nature of his drafting experience, architecture, and various abstract art movements. His printmaking experience is lithography, woodcuts, dry point, and mono-prints. His current printmaking practice is to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional printmaking.

Kristin Bickal (she/her) is a printmaker residing in Minneapolis with a design and photography background. She’s an experienced instructor in several print methods at Highpoint. Her own work explorers the intersections of craft and fine art, as well as reflecting her interest in the natural environment, textiles, memory, and things that are left behind.
