Kieran Riley Abbott, Christopher Alday, Drew Peterson
On View: May 22, 2015 – June 20, 2015
With the generous support of the Jerome Foundation, the artists were provided 9 months of access to Highpoint’s printmaking facilities, as well as technical support, critiques with visiting artists and curators, and the opportunity to work in a studio environment that encourages experimentation and growth. The exhibition featured screenprints, relief prints, site-specific installations, as well as found and manipulated objects.
During her residency, Kieran Riley Abbott explored methods of representing the grid, mapping, repetition/repeating forms, and the visual effect of perspective by creating screenprints from, on, and with cut vinyl. In addition to a series of variable-edition lithographs and screenprints, Kieran has created several wall installations using printed and cut vinyl. Kieran graduated from the University of Minnesota in June 2014 with a BFA in printmaking.
Christopher Alday’s work underscores the labor inherent in printmaking that typically goes unnoticed. The prints and objects generated by Christopher are the evidence of that labor. Additionally, by printing and arranging a set of individual yet identical images, he is highlighting the uniformity that is made possible by repetition. Christopher Alday is a 2013 graduate of Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s Print, Paper, Book program.
Using a process-based approach to image development, Drew Peterson has created two bodies of work that explore abstraction through the lens of personal history, memory, and everyday interactions. The prints featured utilize a novel combination of screenprinting and monoprinting techniques. Peterson holds a BFA in studio art from the University of Minnesota and an MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
A special thank you to jurors Dennis Michael Jon, Associate Curator, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and John Saurer, Associate Professor of Art, St. Olaf College. Highpoint would also like to extend our gratitude to guest critics Stephanie Hunder, Chair of the Department of Art and Concordia College Saint Paul and Kris Douglas, Chief Curator at the Rochester Art Center.
Please join Highpoint Center for Printmaking in celebrating the 2023-2024 Jerome Early Career Printmakers at their culminating exhibition. Artists Mei Lam So, Izzy Shinn, and Gidinatiy Hartman will present a new work created during their residency, including a collection of intaglio, relief, and lithographic prints.
