Wash-Monoprint Intaglio - CANCELLED

Explore two approaches to monoprint intaglio with atmospheric and wash-like effects, with guidance on keeping the mess in check — namely, not staining the expensive felts! Friday evening will begin with examples and an opportunity to prepare line-etched plates for use in the workshop. Saturday will focus on adapting traditional inking in combination with spot-inking and relief rolls. Sunday will focus on a relief etching approach similar to Asian block printing, with oil-based ink, lending itself to easy layering with other oil-based or embossment techniques. Introductory etching experience preferred. Participants are encouraged to bring existing plates to experiment with. These techniques favor deeply-etched linework and open bite, but any intaglio imagery may be tried.

During his MFA at Illinois State University, he attended the Tamarind Institute summer lithography workshop and served as an assistant in Normal Editions Workshop.

Chris divides his time between the Midwestern US and Brisbane, Australia, where he co-founded Grey Hand Press with fellow printer Claudia Husband.
