Sarah Crowner
Known primarily for her vivid sewn paintings, Crowner draws upon art historical references, infusing them with a breath of fresh air and contemporary vitality. Along with art history, her interest in materials is also evident and pervasive. Crowner explains, “I am very much interested in using a material as a medium. Using materials as a way to get the medium to speak, in a sense.”
Crowner’s work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions in galleries and museums worldwide including a large solo exhibition at Mass MOCA. Her artwork is part of many public and private collections, including Museum of Modern Art and the Walker Art Center, among others.
Crowner (b. 1974) lives and works in New York and is represented by Casey Kaplan (New York) and Simon Lee (London & Hong Kong).
