The major events of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic and the death of George Floyd, influenced several of the pieces in this year’s Prints on Ice show, including two prints by printmaker, installation artist and curator Maria Cristina Tavera.
Tavera’s work is infused with political and cultural themes, and the technique of screen printing reflects the medium of a movement, messaging with immediacy, and protest art.
Harvesting Hope is a tribute to the migrant and undocumented people who have become frontline workers, risking more now even than before the global pandemic.
Atquetzali, The Connection is about the inspired response from different communities following the murder of George Floyd, the rapid pooling and distribution of resources to those in need.
